What Research Methods Courses Need to Teach Now

January 28, 2026

I rewrote a third of my research methods syllabus this year — not because the fundamentals changed, but because the tools around them did.

Students now need to know how to verify an AI-assisted literature search the same way they'd verify a research assistant's work: carefully, and every time.

The core statistical and ethical reasoning skills matter more than ever, precisely because the tooling makes it easier to move fast without them.
